Though we came for rest, one of our happiest surprises was the wildlife and birding opportunities around Lagoons RV Resort and nearby parks.
Early one morning, we spotted a heron fishing near a pond. The next day, a pair of squirrels darted through trees near our campsite. We also saw pelicans flying overhead, shorebirds along the coastline, and various songbirds in the shrubbery. At dusk, we glimpsed bats emerging near tree lines.
We visited Goose Island State Park and walked trails at dawn; binoculars in hand, we watched wading birds, ducks, and marsh species. Nearby marshes and coastal edges are prime for spotting.
One afternoon, I quietly sat by a bush near the resort’s edge, journal in hand, sketching or writing notes as birds flitted. The quiet observation felt restorative.
If you enjoy nature, bring binoculars, a field guide (or app), a notebook, and patience. Be still. Let the place reveal itself.
