This trip was extra special: three generations together. My parents (in their 70s), my children (8 and 10), and me and my spouse. We wanted somewhere everyone could enjoy.
Mornings, the grandkids and grandparents would swim or stroll while we made breakfast together. Then we went as a group to Goose Island State Park—a gentle trail walk, nature observation, bird watching. The kids collected sticks and shells; the grandparents paused often to admire the view; we chatted.
Afternoons, we’d return for naps, quiet reading, or board games in the clubhouse. Then in late afternoon, we’d head to Rockport Beach Park for beach time. The kids splashed, the grandparents sat under umbrellas, and we all traded stories.
Evenings: we made family dinners back at the rig (I prepped a crockpot taco chili earlier), then all joined the dance or card night at the clubhouse. One night, my mom taught the kids to knit; my father played chess with others.
The balance of activity and downtime made it comfortable for all generations. For families doing this, bring a mix: games, light walking gear, beach toys, hobby items (books, knitting, cards) to keep everyone engaged.
